We wish to announce the retirement of the former Secretary-General/Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Mr. Philip N. Ndatsu FRCNA, FWACN after 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.
Before he joined the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, he was the Principal, School of Nursing, Bida, Niger State. He served the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in various capacities as Principal Nurse Tutor (Inspectorate) and Assistant Secretary-General (Education/Research and Inspectorate Divisions). He was appointed Acting Secretary-General/Registrar of the Council in 1994. He became the substantive Secretary-General/Registrar in 1997, a post he held till his retirement in 2004.
Mr. Ndatsu is a Fellow, Royal College of Nursing, Australia (FRCNA); Fellow, West African College of Nursing (FWACN) and a member of many national and international nursing organisations.
Mr. Ndatsu is succeeded by Mrs. Olatokunbo A. Olanipekun as the new Secretary-General/Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Until her appointment, she has, as the Deputy Registrar, been at the helm of affairs in the Inspectorate Section of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. With this appointment, she becomes the first substantive female Secretary-General/Registrar of the Council.

A four-day workshop was organised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in collaboration with Nurses Across the Borders, a Non-Governmental Organization. The Workshop was held at the Conference Centre, Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos from 19th-22nd October, 2004. Please consult the Council's Newsletter for details. |

We would like to see a Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria that is the flagship of institutions of its kind in the whole world, with Nursing and Midwifery Education and Practice assuming their rightful place in Nigeria, professional ethics and etiquette adequately maintained, and the quality of Nursing Care to Clients and Patients properly guaranteed. It is also our desire that interdisciplinary collaboration with all stakeholders in the health profession be given the highest priority it deserves. |
