The Updating/Licensing Unit of the Council came into existence in 1987 when the Council embarked on the updating of the Registers and Issuance of Licences to all cadres of Registered Nurses in Nigeria.
This exercise was later supported and enforced by the Amended Decree 54 of 1988, Section 5 which states that "No Nurse shall be allowed to practise or continue to practise in any year except such a Nurse has paid the Annual Licencing Fee for that year as prescribed by the Council." Licences are renewable every three years.
The purpose of the exercise among others includes:
Updating the register of Nurses in Nigeria.
Ensuring that Nurses improve themselves professionally by participating in Continuing
Education Programmes which became a criterion for renewing a Licence.
Flushing out quacks from the profession. |
